Job Responsibilities

As a professional painter, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality finishing work. Duties include:

1. Surface Preparation

Before applying paint or coatings, you will:

• Clean, scrape, and sand surfaces

• Repair cracks, dents, and holes

• Remove debris or old paint as needed

Surface preparation is crucial for producing flawless results, and painters must ensure surfaces are smooth and ready for finishing.

2. Mixing & Preparing Paint

You will be expected to:

• Mix the paint to the correct color tone

• Adjust texture to match project requirements

• Select the appropriate paint type for each surface

Understanding color matching is essential in ensuring that final results meet client expectations.

3. Wallpaper & Fabric Installation

Painters in this role may also be required to:

• Measure, cut, and apply wallpaper or fabrics

• Offer advice on color combinations

• Guide clients on wall covering choices

This requires precision and accuracy to deliver smooth, bubble-free finishes.

4. Applying Finishes

Your primary tasks include:

• Applying paint, coatings, and finishes to interior and exterior surfaces

• Using brushes, rollers, and professional-grade equipment

• Ensuring clean, even strokes and strong attention to detail

Whether working inside homes, offices, or large buildings, you are expected to maintain high standards.

5. Setup & Safety

You will handle worksite preparation, such as:

• Erecting scaffolding

• Setting up swing stages

• Attaching rigging securely

Safety is a top priority, especially when working at heights.

6. Estimating & Documentation

Painters may also:

• Estimate material needs and costs

• Prepare labor cost estimates

• Communicate clearly with clients and supervisors

Skills & Experience Requirements

Education

• Secondary (high) school graduation certificate

Experience

• 7 months to less than 1 year (painting or similar trade)

Work Conditions

Painters must be comfortable with:

• Bending, kneeling, crouching

• Long periods of standing

• Handling up to 9 kg (20 lbs)

• Fast-paced environments
